Making a Trail

Do not go where the path may lead, go instead where there is no path and leave a trail.

We have seen a ton of people eating these Octopus Balls around Japan. I’m sure they have a proper Japanese name, but I don’t know it, and wouldnt know how to write it anyway. Regardless, given their popularity we figured we should try them. Bad idea.

I should have known they were bad news when the vendor tried to drench our order in mayo. Mayo is my kryptonite. Survival instincts kicked in and I busted out a few “iie’s” (no in Japanese). Thankfully, she hosltered her mayo squeeze bottle.

Around $5 and 30 seconds later we were the proud owner of a bunch of these ball shaped snacks. Eating them was tough. They were molten hot inside. The outer shell was somewhat crispy, but inside was a mixture of thin liquid and chewy dough. Floating in that goo was a large tentacle chunk. They were also very fishy tasting.

Could. Not. Hang.
