Making a Trail

Do not go where the path may lead, go instead where there is no path and leave a trail.

Today we went on a tour exploring the islands west of Ko Lanta (where we’re staying.) The main reason I wanted to go on the tour was I had read about all the limestone karsts, which are islands with sheer cliffs created by erosion. The islands themsleves did not disappoint, and the white sand beaches created by the eroded limestone felt like powdered sugar.

The first stop on our tour was Maya Bay. It’s the smaller of the Phi Phi islands (pronounced “Pee Pee”, to the delight of Mike and, likely, Steve). It’s where they filmed the movie “The Beach” with Leonardo Dicaprio. It would have been a fun deserted island adventure, except we were there with pretty much every other tourist in Thailand. The reason it is so touristy is obvious from the pictures:
